"I am ready to public initiatives, to political and legal actions exceptional and extreme. And certainly those who think they change the rules of the democratic game to less than five months from the vote administrative and european will not forget easily the Socialist battle against this beastly Pact ."

That said Riccardo Nencini (Secretary of the Italian Socialist Party) in commenting on the news of an agreement between Veltroni and Berlusconi for an amendment to the electoral law for the European elections.

Veltroni wants to defend his leadership in the party, so the agreement with Berlusconi. He tramples democracy for its own purposes. He wants to introduce a barrier to 4 / 5% to prevent at other parties, including the Socialist Party, to elect MEPs.

The Italian Socialists are preparing to respond to this "beastly" and anti-democratic act.

DS (Italy) Companions, for the next 1 and 2 December 2008 will return your party. On that date will be held in Madrid, the Council of Party of European Socialists (PES) for the official accession to the Manifesto 2009 and for the official opening of the campaign for the European Parliament elections. Since Veltroni can not put his signature to the ratification of the election manifesto, for internal problems in the Democratic Party, will resurrect the Democrats of the Left (DS) and the charge covered by his last secretary - liquidator, Piero Fassino .  It will be just him to sign the Manifesto of the Socialists, of course, not on behalf of PD but as secretary of DS, forgetting for two days he had dissolved the party and formed the Democratic Party. Since the European elections are upon us, I think it's time to make clear not to appear ridiculous and to protect the policy of PSE in Italy.

After the UK Labour Party and the Danish Social Democrats, the Northern Irish Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) is the third PES member party to announce its candidate for the next European Elections.

For the first time, Alban Maginness, 58 years old, member of the Northern Ireland Assembly since 1998, is going to run for the European Parliament next June. Even though, he is not to be considered as a newcomer into the European political arena, since he has already been a delegate to the Committee of the Regions and he is currently a member of the Special Observer Pillar of the National Forum on Europe.

Speaking after accepting the nomination, Alban Maginness stated that it is time to stop wasting John Hume’s legacy, as the Sinn Fein, the DUP and the UUP, have been doing for years, and to start building the change on his message:

“It is time for fresh thinking. The SDLP has always been the party of ideas and the party of ideals, both at home and in Europe. […] By voting for and re-electing the SDLP to the European Parliament we can send out the strongest possible message that the direction we are heading is the right one. Sinn Fein and the DUP are not working at home. They are not working in Europe. It is time for a change.” read more

Few days ago the Danish SD agreed its list for next European Elections: 33 year-old Dan Jørgensen, MEP, the youngest candidate on the list, will top the list.
Yourspace met Dan and put some questions on his nomination, the composition of the list and the mood in Denmark towards the EU.

Check out the video and let us know your opinion. What do you think about the choice of such a young candidate as the front runner? Do you agree with his analysis about a change in the Danish public opinion towards Europe?
